Proper Care & Maintenance

When it comes to caring for your dentures, it’s important to properly clean and store them so they last long and serve as a great function. Below are some tips for cleaning and maintenance.

How Do I Maintain My Dentures?

  1. After eating, take out your prosthetics and rinse with water
  2. Be careful bending or damaging the clasps on your dentures when cleaning
  3. Brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your natural teeth, gums, and tongue
  4. Soak them in water or denture solution overnight to maintain their shape
  5. Be sure to frequently visit our office for regular checkups with Dr. Bassford

How Do I Clean My Dentures & Remove Stains?

When cleaning your dentures, remove them every night before bed and brush them with a non-abrasive denture cleaner. After you’ve cleaned them and your mouth, be sure to soak them overnight in water or a denture solution so they don’t dry out.

If you notice stains on your dentures, it will be tough to remove them. Dr. Bassford recommends that you practice excellent oral hygiene to avoid discoloring in the first place. Never use bleach or other teeth whitening products on your prosthetic teeth because this can damage them.

Additionally, when you come in for your regular checkups, we can clean and sterilize your dentures at no cost while you’re getting examined by our hygienists.

Repairs & Replacements

It’s normal that you’ll need minor repairs on your dentures over time or that you’ll have to get them replaced every seven to 10 years. When the time comes, Dr. Bassford can take a look at the condition of your partials or fulls and make any necessary adjustments or replacements.

What If My Current Dentures are Loose or Ill-fitting?

If your artificial teeth become loose or don’t fit properly, it’s crucial to call our office to let us know because this can result in bite and other oral health issues. Dr. Bassford may be able to realign them or she may recommend implant-supported dentures for a more stable, custom fit.

My Dentures Broke, How Do I Fix Them?

Don’t try to fix your set of prosthetic teeth if they break or become damaged. Instead, store them in a safe place and keep them as clean as possible until we can get you in for an appointment. Just give us a call right away so we can get you in quickly.
