Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants offer many benefits that other tooth replacements can’t match, including:
- Natural appearance and function
- Secured to your jaw
- Easy to maintain
- Resistant to decay
- Prevents your jawbone from shrinking
- Can last up to a lifetime
The Dental Implant Process
Restoring missing teeth with dental implants is a three-step process that Dr. Bassford will complete over the course of several months. These steps are:
- Initial Consultation — The first step of your treatment is a consultation with Dr. Bassford. During this visit, she’ll evaluate your teeth, gums, and jaw to determine if implants are the right choice for you.
- Implant Placement — Once she signs off that you’re ready, Dr. Bassford will place your dental implant or implants directly in your jaw and protect the surgical area with a temporary restoration. Your jaw will need three to six months to fully heal and integrate with your implant.
- Final Restoration — After the healing process is complete, you’ll return to our office for your customized restoration. We feature crowns, bridges, and dentures to restore up to a full arch of missing teeth for your convenience. Once your restoration is secure, you’ll be ready to show off your new smile to everyone you know.
Are You a Candidate For Dental Implants?
If you want a restoration that allows you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence, dental implants could be the solution you’re looking for.
Unlike dentures, implants are secured to your jaw so they’ll never fall out or slide out of place. They can also be cleaned just like natural teeth and they stimulate your jaw to prevent bone loss.
In order to take advantage of dental implants, you’ll need a strong jawbone and healthy gums. If you suffer from bone loss or gum disease, Dr. Bassford may be able to prepare you for implants with a supplemental procedure. Any supplemental procedures will be included in your treatment plan up-front and discussed during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Typically, dental implants will last for at least 25 years before they start to wear down. To maximize your implants, make sure that you brush and floss every day in addition to visiting Dr. Bassford for biannual checkups. With excellent oral care, your implants can potentially last a lifetime without needing to be replaced.
The first week or two after surgery is the most crucial period for determining your implant’s success. During this time, you’ll need to follow Dr. Bassford’s instructions carefully. These will include limiting your diet to soft foods, refraining from drinking alcohol or smoking, and rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water after meals.
Once your implant has healed, caring for it requires much less effort. You can maintain your implant just like a natural tooth, with daily brushing and flossing.
As long as your implant surgery is performed by an experienced and qualified dentist, there’s no reason to worry. As an overall treatment, dental implants have a success rate of 98%. They’re also the only tooth replacement that stimulates jawbone growth, making them the best treatment option for your long-term oral health.
Unfortunately, dental implants are often designated as a cosmetic treatment and not covered by insurance as a result. However, you may be able to get a portion of your total cost covered depending on the terms of your plan.
The amount of payment you receive can vary depending on your provider. If you have any questions, our team will be happy to assist you.
Complications with dental implants are rare. In the unlikely event that you experience a problem, don’t attempt to fix the implant yourself — this may only result in additional damage and set your treatment back further. Instead, give us a call and explain the issue to Dr. Bassford. She’ll provide the care you need as soon as possible and get your treatment back on track.
